There are certain matchups on the schedule that carry a little more history.

For CSCS Volleyball, St. Mary’s is one of them.

The Lions and Pirates have shared the court for years, building a longstanding local rivalry that has produced plenty of memorable matches. This season, the latest chapter belonged to the Lions — at every level of the CSCS Volleyball program.

From Varsity all the way through our Middle School C Team, all five CSCS teams earned victories over St. Mary’s.

Five teams. Five wins. One program.

Varsity Finishes a Five-Set Battle

The varsity matchup delivered exactly the kind of competition you would expect from two familiar opponents.

CSCS and St. Mary’s battled through five sets before the Lions finished the night with a 3–2 victory. It was a hard-earned win that required CSCS to stay together and continue competing deep into the match.

The victory was particularly meaningful because of the history between the two programs. CSCS and St. Mary’s have been competing against one another for years, with past coverage describing the schools as longtime league rivals.

But the story of the week was much bigger than one varsity match.

A Program-Wide Victory

Across the CSCS Volleyball program, Lion teams continued to deliver.

Varsity — WIN
JV — WIN
Middle School A — WIN
Middle School B — WIN
Middle School C — WIN

That is something worth celebrating.

When every team in a program — from younger athletes beginning their journey through varsity athletes leading at the highest level — steps onto the court against the same opponent and comes away victorious, it provides a glimpse of the strength and depth being built throughout CSCS Volleyball.

These aren’t simply five separate teams wearing the same jersey. They are part of one program.

Our middle school athletes are watching the high school girls compete. Our varsity athletes are setting an example for the players coming behind them. Coaches are developing athletes at every level, and our girls are learning what it means to compete together.

More Than the Scoreboard

Winning five matches against a rival is exciting, and we are incredibly proud of what these girls accomplished.

But what makes us most proud is who they are becoming in the process.

At CSCS, athletics gives our students another opportunity to pursue excellence, develop character, encourage one another, and ultimately represent Jesus Christ well through the way they compete.

That standard matters when we win, and it matters when we lose.

This time, however, we’re certainly going to celebrate the wins.

Five CSCS teams took the court against St. Mary’s. Five CSCS teams walked away victorious.

Congratulations to our players and coaches throughout the entire CSCS Volleyball program on an outstanding showing.

Way to go, Lions!
