The Colorado Springs Christian Schools girls volleyball team is finding its stride at just the right time. With back-to-back victories over La Junta and Florence, the Lions are showing resilience, determination, and a willingness to fight for every point as the regular season draws to a close.

After a challenging stretch of conference competition, CSCS responded with a convincing 3–0 victory over La Junta on Thursday, October 15. The Lions controlled the match, winning 25–17, 25–20, and 25–17.

Senior Jayne Glojek helped lead the effort with 20 assists and five service aces, while senior Lily Hergenreter contributed 14 assists, 12 digs, and nine kills. It was a strong team performance that helped the Lions regain momentum.

But Tuesday night’s matchup against Florence would test that momentum.

Lions Fight Back for a Five-Set Victory

On October 20, the Lions traveled to Florence for a battle that required every bit of their determination.

After dropping the opening set 21–25, CSCS responded with a 25–21 victory in the second. Florence took the third set 25–18, putting the Lions in a difficult position, down two sets to one.

Rather than backing down, CSCS answered with one of its strongest sets of the evening, winning the fourth 25–14 and forcing a decisive fifth set.

With the match on the line, the Lions finished the job, taking the final set 15–11 and securing a hard-fought 3–2 victory.

Senior Lily Hergenreter delivered an outstanding all-around performance with 18 assists, 16 digs, 11 kills, three solo blocks, and three service aces. Jayne Glojek added 20 assists, 17 digs, six kills, and two solo blocks, while senior Breckyn Gooden anchored the defense with 19 digs.

It was the kind of victory that reflects the character of this team. Facing adversity, the Lions stayed together, competed with purpose, and found a way to win.

Building Momentum for the Final Stretch

With Tuesday’s victory, the Lions improve to 9–12 overall, extending their winning streak to two matches.

While the season has brought its share of challenges, this group continues to grow through competition. Their recent performances are encouraging signs of a team learning to execute under pressure and trust one another when the stakes are high.

The leadership of this year’s seniors has been especially important. Their experience, consistency, and commitment are helping set the tone for a younger group of athletes who will carry the program forward.

The Lions now turn their attention to Woodland Park, their final scheduled regular-season opponent, on Tuesday, October 27, at 6:00 PM at CSCS.

It will be another opportunity to build confidence, sharpen their execution, and finish the regular season strong.

More Than the Final Score

There is something meaningful about watching a team continue to compete through a difficult season. Growth isn’t always reflected in the win-loss column. Sometimes it’s seen in the way athletes respond to a tough loss, encourage a struggling teammate, or refuse to give up when a match seems out of reach.

Those moments matter.

We are proud of the perseverance these young women have demonstrated and grateful for the coaches, families, and school community who continue to invest in them.

As the Lions prepare for their final regular-season match, we believe in this team and the work they are putting in.

The season isn’t finished yet. Let’s finish strong, Lions!
