The CSCS Boys Soccer team took another step forward this past week, putting together an unbeaten stretch that showcased both offensive firepower and the ability to battle through a tight match on the road.
The Lions opened the week with a dominant 6–0 victory over Ellicott before traveling across Colorado Springs and earning a 2–2 draw against The Vanguard School. The results moved CSCS to 2–2–1 on the season heading into this week’s competition.
A Statement Win Over Ellicott
Coming off a difficult loss to Liberty Common, the Lions had an opportunity to respond when they welcomed Ellicott to UCCS Mountain Lion Stadium on September 1.
They responded in a big way.
CSCS controlled the match on its way to a 6–0 shutout victory, the Lions’ largest win of the young season. The six-goal performance raised CSCS’s scoring average to 3.2 goals per game at the time and demonstrated just how dangerous this group can be when it finds its rhythm offensively.
But perhaps just as important as the six goals was the zero on the other side of the scoreboard.
Strong team defense and a clean sheet provided another encouraging sign for a Lions squad continuing to establish its identity.
Senior Judah Rogers was named CSCS Player of the Match following the victory. Rogers has emerged as one of the Lions’ offensive leaders early this season, while sophomore Ethan Nolley has also been an important contributor in the attack.
Lions Battle Vanguard to a Draw
Two days later, CSCS faced a different kind of challenge on the road against The Vanguard School.
This time, neither side was willing to give way.
The Lions and Coursers battled to a 2–2 draw, marking CSCS’s first tie of the season. It wasn’t the victory the Lions were chasing, but earning a result on the road allowed CSCS to finish the week 1–0–1 and remain unbeaten across the two-match stretch.
Senior Barclay Stuart was selected as the Lions’ Player of the Match following the contest.
The two matches showed different sides of this CSCS team. Against Ellicott, the Lions demonstrated their ability to take control and finish opportunities. Against Vanguard, they had to compete through a much tighter battle and find a way to leave with a result.
Both experiences matter as this team continues to grow.

This past week gave the Lions opportunities to do all of those things.

Up Next: Front Range Christian
CSCS returns to action Tuesday, September 8 at 4:00 PM, hosting Front Range Christian.
It will be a familiar opponent. The Lions defeated the Falcons 5–2 on August 25, but Front Range Christian enters the rematch playing well, having won two straight while scoring eight goals across those victories.
For the Lions, it is another opportunity to keep building.
